If you have been scrolling Pinterest and falling in love with First Trip Around the Sun birthday parties, you are not alone.
This theme is SO popular right now and for good reason. It works for a boy, a girl, or a gender-neutral party. It has two really distinct directions you can take it, which I will break down below. And almost everything you need to put it together is right on Amazon, which makes shopping for it SO much easier than hunting across a dozen different websites.
This is your full shop-the-look guide for a First Trip Around the Sun first birthday. Every section tells you exactly what to search on Amazon so you can find it fast, compare options, and add your favorite version to cart.
Pick Your Direction First
Before you shop anything, decide which version of this theme speaks to you. Because there are really two:
The Sunny Version: Warm and boho. Burnt orange, mustard yellow, cream, and gold. Sun imagery, rainbow arches, and a “You Are My Sunshine” vibe. Very popular for girls and gender-neutral parties. Very Pinterest-worthy and very warm in photos.
The Space Version: Deep navy, silver, and gold with astronaut, planet, rocket, and star details. Cooler palette. Much more dramatic in photos. Very popular for boys especially. Phrases like “One Small Step” or “To Infinity and ONE” anchor the theme.
Both versions have huge product ranges on Amazon so neither one is harder to shop for than the other. Pick the one that feels most like your baby’s personality and stick with it throughout!
The Invitations
What to Search on Amazon
Search “first trip around the sun birthday invitation” on Amazon for physical invitation packs. Or check Etsy for digital download invitation suites where you can customize the baby’s name, date, and all the details, then print at home or at a local copy shop.
For the sunny version, look for watercolor sun and rainbow designs in warm peach and mustard tones. For the space version, look for dark navy galaxy backgrounds with rocket and star illustrations.
Fun wording to use on your invitation:
- “She Completed Her First Trip Around the Sun”
- “One Small Step for [Name], One Giant Leap for Fun!”
- “You Are My Sunshine, Now She’s ONE”
- “Blast Off! He’s Turning ONE”
- “Join Us for His First Trip Around the Sun”
The Decor Bundle
What to Search on Amazon
Search “first trip around the sun birthday decorations” on Amazon and you will find complete party kits that include the backdrop, banner, balloon garland, highchair banner, cake topper, and cupcake toppers all in one box.
These all-in-one kits are the easiest and most affordable way to shop this theme. Everything coordinates, everything arrives together, and you do not need to piece together matching items from different sellers. Most kits run between $20 and $40 on Amazon and include 50 to 125 pieces.
For the sunny version, search “first trip around the sun boho sun birthday decorations” or “you are my sunshine first birthday kit.”
For the space version, search “first trip around the sun outer space birthday decorations” or “astronaut first birthday party kit.”
The Backdrop
What to Search on Amazon
Search “first trip around the sun party backdrop” on Amazon. These come in fabric and vinyl options.
For the sunny version, look for a warm-toned fabric backdrop with sun and rainbow illustrations in peach, mustard, and cream. For the space version, look for a navy or black backdrop with planet and star illustrations. Most backdrop panels are 5×3 feet or 5×7 feet, which is the right size to hang behind a highchair or dessert table.
A checkered backdrop in the theme colors is also a popular Groovy-adjacent option for the sunny version. Search “boho sun checkered backdrop” on Amazon for that look!
The Balloon Garland
What to Search on Amazon
Search “first trip around the sun balloon garland kit” on Amazon.
For the sunny version, look for kits in burnt orange, mustard yellow, cream, gold, and white. Sun-shaped foil balloons and rainbow arch foil balloons are the signature pieces for this direction. Search “boho sun balloon garland kit” for the warmest selection.
For the space version, look for kits in navy, silver, and gold with planet foil balloons, star foil balloons, and a large astronaut or rocket mylar balloon. Search “outer space balloon garland kit” or “galaxy first birthday balloon arch” on Amazon.
Most garland kits on Amazon come with 100 to 150 balloons, a decorating strip, and a pump. Assembly takes about two hours and there are tons of YouTube tutorials to walk you through it!
The Highchair Banner
What to Search on Amazon
Search “first trip around the sun highchair banner” on Amazon.
Highchair banners are one of the most-photographed details at a first birthday because they show up in every smash cake photo. Most kits include a highchair banner, but if yours does not, you can buy one separately very affordably on Amazon.
For the sunny version, look for “you are my sunshine highchair banner” or “boho sun one highchair banner” in warm peach and mustard colors.
For the space version, search “outer space first birthday highchair banner” or “astronaut first trip around the sun banner” in navy and silver.
The Cake Topper
What to Search on Amazon
Search “first trip around the sun cake topper” on Amazon for a wide selection in both theme directions.
For the sunny version, look for an acrylic or gold glitter topper that reads “First Trip Around the Sun” or “You Are My Sunshine, ONE” in warm tones.
For the space version, search “outer space first birthday cake topper” or “astronaut first trip around the sun cake topper” for rocket and planet designs.
Acrylic toppers on Amazon typically run $8 to $15 and they look great on any cake, including a plain bakery sheet cake. They are the easiest way to dress up a simple cake without needing a fully custom order.
Speaking of cakes: always order your smash cake and guest cake from a professional baker. Share your theme reference photos with them and confirm every single ingredient and allergen before ordering. Give your baker at least two weeks of lead time!
The Tableware
What to Search on Amazon
Search “first trip around the sun party plates napkins” or “outer space first birthday tableware” on Amazon for plates, napkins, and cups in the theme.
For the sunny version, look for warm yellow and orange sun-print plates layered with cream or gold solid plates for a styled look. Search “boho sun party plates” or “you are my sunshine party tableware” on Amazon.
For the space version, navy plates with gold star or silver planet prints look really striking. Search “galaxy birthday party plates” or “outer space party tableware set” on Amazon.
Most Amazon tableware sets serve 16 to 24 guests and include matching napkins, cups, and cutlery, which makes one-stop shopping very easy!
The Tablecloth and Table Runner
What to Search on Amazon
Search “first trip around the sun tablecloth” on Amazon for printed versions in the theme.
For a simpler approach, a plain yellow or navy tablecloth from Amazon paired with a themed table runner works really well and costs less than a printed tablecloth. Search “gold star table runner” or “sun print table runner” on Amazon depending on your theme direction.
A galaxy print tablecloth for the space version, or a warm sun and rainbow print for the sunny version, immediately makes the food table feel fully on theme even before any food is on it!
The Birthday Outfit
What to Search on Amazon
Search “first trip around the sun birthday outfit girl” or “first trip around the sun birthday outfit boy” on Amazon.
For a girl, the most popular looks are a mustard or peach romper with a sun and rainbow print, or a dress with a “First Trip Around the Sun” embroidered detail paired with a matching headband.
For a boy, search “astronaut first birthday outfit” or “one small step first birthday romper” on Amazon for adorable space-themed onesies and sets.
Many sellers on Amazon offer matching family shirts in the same theme so mom, dad, and siblings can coordinate for the photos. Search “first trip around the sun matching family shirts” to see all the options!
Always have a backup outfit ready for after the smash cake. That frosting goes everywhere and you want to keep the cute look going for the rest of the party photos!
The Cake Smash Backdrop
What to Search on Amazon
Search “first trip around the sun cake smash backdrop” or “space theme cake smash backdrop” on Amazon for backdrop panels specifically designed for the smash cake photo moment.
This is a slightly smaller, more focused version of the main party backdrop. It sits directly behind the highchair during the cake smash and makes every photo from that moment look really polished.
For the sunny version, a warm peach or mustard fabric backdrop with sun details works perfectly. For the space version, a deep navy star-field backdrop with silver details photographs SO well with the birthday baby as the subject!
The Photo Banner
What to Search on Amazon
Search “first trip around the sun photo banner” or “monthly milestone photo banner first birthday” on Amazon.
This is the banner where you display photos from each month of the baby’s first year. It typically hangs near the entrance or behind the dessert table and it is one of the most emotional and loved details at any first birthday. Guests stop and look at every single month and it always creates a quiet moment of reflection about how much the baby has grown.
Most first trip around the sun photo banners on Amazon come pre-printed with the theme design and just need the photos clipped on. Very easy to put together the night before the party!
The Favors
What to Search on Amazon
Search “first trip around the sun party favors” on Amazon for themed options.

Star-shaped bubbles: Search “star-shaped bubble wands” on Amazon. Very affordable in bulk, very on theme, and kids of all ages love them.

Rocket or sun-shaped lollipops: Search “rocket lollipops” or “sun lollipops” on Amazon for themed candy favors that look really cute on the favor table.
Seed packets: Small envelopes of sunflower seeds labeled “Thanks for Celebrating [Name]’s First Trip!” are a really sweet low-cost favor. Find kraft seed envelopes on Amazon and add a custom label!
String Lights and Ambient Details
What to Search on Amazon
Search “star string lights” or “star fairy lights” on Amazon for warm white or gold lights to drape above the party table or through the balloon garland.
For the space version, glow-in-the-dark star stickers on the ceiling or walls create an incredibly dramatic effect in photos. Search “glow in the dark ceiling stars” on Amazon for packs with hundreds of stars that stick to any surface.
For the sunny version, warm amber fairy lights in glass jars on the tables create a golden-hour glow that makes every photo look like it was shot at sunset. Search “battery powered fairy lights in glass jar” on Amazon!
